What This Product Does

The HFS HCRIS Database gives users access to the CMS public-use Medicare Cost Report data. Hospice Medicare Cost Reports contain thousands of data elements for many providers across multiple reporting periods. This website brings key elements of this data into clear view, allowing users to focus on specific providers and elements, filter the data, and extract exactly what they need for further analysis.

Recreated Medicare Cost Reports for All 1984-14 Reports

CMS includes all the necessary data elements in the 1984‑14 Medicare Cost Report Public Use File to recreate full Medicare cost reports. The database provides complete PDF versions of these recreated cost reports for viewing or download. Users of HFS software can download an HFS data file (.mcrx) for viewing, editing, applying adjustments, comparisons, or any other HFS software functionality.

Hospice Snapshot Reports

Provider Comparisons

Compare one provider to up to three others based on filter criteria or direct selection. Snapshot report data is used to highlight key differences and benchmarks.

Rollup Report

Generate a single provider report that consolidates data from one or more additional cost reports from other providers.

Advanced Search and Extract

Filter down to a precise subset of Hospice providers using:

• Provider Number or Name
• FYB or FYE ranges
• Report Status
• City, State, MAC#
• Provider Type / Subprovider Type
• CBSA
• Urban / Rural

Then choose which cost report elements to download:

• Snapshot Report elements
• Cost Report Worksheets (A, B, C, ...)
• Your own custom element sets

DB Report Inventory List

A downloadable ZIP file containing a CSV inventory of every provider available in the Hospice system. This list includes key fields that make it easy to review the available reports and their details.

These reports were generated using CMS HCRIS public-use data. CMS updates HCRIS quarterly as new information becomes available. HCRIS data is not provided in cost-report format; HFS processes and organizes this data into readable reports. While HFS strives for accuracy, recreated reports may not be identical to the originally filed or MAC‑settled versions.
